FIRST DAY IN OFFICE: Borno State Governor orders building of flyovers in Maiduguri

The Borno state Governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum has directed the immediate de-congestion of Maiduguri city by constructing flyovers.

The governor said this first day in office while receiving the Nigerian society of Engineers led by the president, Engr. Babagana Mohammed who paid him a congratulatory visit Thursday at the Government House Maiduguri.

Governor Zulum while addressing the deligation said 'engineering is very important aspect in our lives and the need to re-inaugurate engineering structures in the state needs not to be overemphasised.'

He noted that massive congestion is observed in Maiduguri which needs immediate attention to ease movement of people in the city.

"I have directed the road maintenance agency and Ministry of works to liaise with the Nigerian Society of Engineers immediately with the view to de-congest Maiduguri Town".

'We have identified three most important places in Maiduguri: the Custom Roundabout, the El-Kanemi (Monday Market) Roundabout as well as the Post Office Roundabout,' Zulum explained.

He further said he cannot promise to start all of them, he however charged the Ministry of works to liaise with NSE to provide a report '... with a view to immediate start the first flyover in Borno state especially that of the Post Office.'

He expressed his gratitude to Members of the Society of Engineers, for a very important report from the Borno branch and guidelines on how to move the state forward.

He further promise that, his government will make good use of the competent engineers in the Borno state branch as part of his vision to move Borno to the Next Level.
